Galvanized or Stainless Steel Fasteners – What to Choose?

The main thing when choosing a material for your fasteners is to understand where and how the hardware will be used. If the fasteners will only be exposed to minor precipitation, there is no point in expensive stainless steel. But if the product will come into contact with acids or food, for example, in the kitchen, there are no options – you will have to spend money on fasteners that will be made of stainless steel and will last for many years. It is impervious to moisture and spices. Therefore, stainless steel bolts and nuts can withstand any technological process when preparing food. The formation of corrosion is excluded.

Bolts

Hardware for detachable structures may have different markings. The traditional nomenclature is a thread with a fine or superfine pitch not on the entire rod of the product, a hexagonal head. It can be semicircular, flanged or countersunk. Anchor, furniture, road, folding and mechanical engineering elements can be made of stainless steel.

Nuts

These are auxiliary elements. Such are used to strengthen the connections of a bolt or stud with a coupling web. They can have a one- or two-sided chamfer. According to design features, nuts can be low, high, lock, crown, flanged, cap, wing, welded.

Stainless steel screws manufacture is widely used in the food and chemical industries, medicine, dentistry, shipbuilding, instrument making and other areas of the economy.

When galvanized fasteners will suit you

Galvanized fasteners are much cheaper than stainless steel. But they are less resistant to acids and temperature changes. If the zinc layer is damaged during operation, the steel will begin to rust. At the same time, high-quality galvanized fasteners with a hot-dip galvanizing coating can last for several decades.
